Spectral Future is about the ambient drift, the loss of distinction we feel when faced with an infinite media paradigm resulting from AI—the endless generative possibilities lacking meaning or context.
In the installation, ChatGPT is continuously asked about the end of the world or any possible future, while the visuals are an AI model trying to depict those futures. I’m interested in the cultural turn towards AI as a perceived objective and rational voice akin to older societies turning towards wisdom or philosophical traditions. Yet, when we point all these advanced technologies toward the future, we are left with something decidedly human: the fragility and vulnerability of our sheer uncertainty.
